Suzuki Instruction
Children all over the world receive their first musical experience through the Suzuki Method. Developed by the late Japanese teacher, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the method employs the "mother tongue" approach to learning, based on the ease with which young children learn to speak. It is through constant listening, imitation and encouragement that very young children learn to speak their language. Dr. Suzuki discovered that these same principals apply when teaching young children to become fine musicians. Suzuki lessons focus on ear-training, developing good instrumental technique and producing a beautiful tone before the child deals with the complexity of music note reading. This marvelous early childhood approach helps parents create positive musical environments in their homes and guides them in their daily schedule of helping their children learn to play an instrument.

The Suzuki approach stresses a balanced, triangular relationship among the teacher, the parent and the student. A Suzuki parent is expected to attend all lessons, take notes and learn basic instrumental skills to practice daily with his or her child.

Suzuki students attend weekly private lessons as well as regularly scheduled group classes with other students at their performance level. The group classes are particularly beneficial as they promote ensemble playing, a review of repertoire, ear-training, singing and rhythm activities, music reading and other games. These classes are highly motivational for students and parents.

Master Classes with nationally-renowned Suzuki teachers are scheduled yearly. Regular Concerts and Graduation Ceremonies are presented for family and friends to attend.

Prior to enrolling in the Suzuki program on any instrument, a parent is required to have an interview with the instructor and to observe Suzuki lessons.
